About counselling
Counselling offers an opportunity to explore difficulties or distress you may be experiencing, or simply have a need for a safe and confidential space to talk to someone. I work over short or long periods, depending on what each person wants to address.
There may be a present concern, such as a specific difficulty you’d like to work on for a short period, or a pressing issue causing current difficulties. Alternatively, you may be looking to consider more fundamental aspects of yourself, focussing on deeper levels of experience and understanding, which may take place over a much longer period.
As an Integrative therapist, I try to hold in mind that there are many different ways of living and experiencing life. Psychological concerns sometimes manifest physically. I have a special interest in trauma, as well as being an EMDR-accredited practitioner.
We would typically meet weekly at a pre-arranged time, but we can discuss individual arrangements at an initial meeting.

About EMDR
Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful scientifically proven psychotherapy to help people recover from traumatic events in their lives which have led to poor mental health.
EMDR can help people to recover from problems triggered by traumatic events in their lives. It can help to stop difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly, working with memory to contact the legacy of past pain.
EMDR therapy is recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

About me

I am a full member of the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists) and a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by their ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy.
In addition to this, I am a fully accredited EMDR practitioner and have also done additional training in Lifespan Integration and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
Alongside my private practice I volunteer as a supervisor with a rather revolutionary community counselling service in Hitchin.
I also teach at the Minster Centre, working with students at Post graduate level.
I am interested in how we come to be ourselves and how we sometimes need help to find ourselves.
Training
I gained an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling at the Minister Centre (London) the UK’s leading integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling Training institute.
Pursuing my interest in how trauma can impact our lives, I became accredited as an EMDR Practitioner.
I also hold a UKCP Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Supervision.
It is important to me to keep up to date with current practice and developing ideas and I regularly attend training and professional development opportunities to enable this.
Much of my interest is centred around more recent developments in neuroscience and interpersonal biology which supplement and expand established therapeutic ways of working.
